A Vision Taking Shape: Confluence Riverfront Project Brings New Life to Lewiston’s Waterfront
As the 2025 cruise boat season approaches, excitement is building in Lewiston. The Confluence Riverfront project is no longer just a vision—it’s becoming reality.
Ground has been broken, and early features of the transformation are now visible: the outline of a future bus turnaround, a new parking lot, and the early stages of walkways and a scenic riverfront patio. Let your imagination wander, and you can picture cruise boat passengers stepping ashore, ready to embark on thrilling Hells Canyon adventures along the majestic Snake and Clearwater Rivers.
“We couldn’t be more excited to see this collaborative effort come to fruition,” said Port General Manager Scott Corbitt. “It’s way past time for the Valley to have a venue that capitalizes on the stunning views of the Confluence—serving as a gateway for visitors to fully experience all that we have to offer.”
Phase 1: Underway and On Track
The project includes three phases, with Phase 1 now under construction by local contractor M.L. Albright & Sons and expected to be largely complete by March 2025. This first phase covers essential site development:
- Paved access road
- Bus turnaround
- Cruise ship passenger parking
- Walkways, lighting, and landscaping
Additionally, American Cruise Lines is set to build a new gangway atop the Port’s existing dock caissons, offering a modern, seamless experience for river cruise passengers. The Port of Lewiston will retain dock ownership, while American Cruise Lines will manage dock operations.
“Partnering with the Port of Lewiston will bring even greater economic benefits to the Lewis-Clark Valley,” said Kristin Meira of American Cruise Lines. “We’re thrilled to expand our presence here and look forward to showcasing Lewiston as a premier tourism destination.”
Looking Ahead: Phases 2 & 3
Once Phase 1 is complete, Phase 2 will begin, including:
- An open-air amphitheater for concerts and events
- Conversion of the current building into a vibrant community and tourism hub
Phase 3 is still in the planning stages, with the Port committed to gathering community input to shape its future.
“This project will be something our community can be truly proud of,” Corbitt added. “We can’t wait to share it with our citizens.”
