LARGE DEBRIS AMOUNTS IMPACTING LOCKAGE TIMES COLUMBIA & SNAKE RIVER NAVIGATION LOCKS
The following Navigation Locks are experiencing large amounts of debris in the Columbia and Snake Rivers which has the potential to impact lockage times:

McNary Lock and Dam – Columbia River Mile 292 Chief Operator on Duty 541-922-2231

Ice Harbor Lock and Dam – Snake River Mile 9.7 Chief Operator on Duty 509-543-3231 Lower Monumental Lock and Dam – Snake River Mile 41.6 Chief Operator on Duty 509-282-7231
Lower Granite Lock and Dam – Snake River Mile 107.5 Chief Operator on Duty 509-843-2231

Debris is stacking up against the upstream gates and has the potential to impact navigation lockage times. Staff efforts have been required in advance of a lockage to clear debris away from the upstream gate entrance to prevent gate damage, which may delay entry into the navlock. Secondly, debris that does enter the lock has the potential to temporarily obstruct the upstream gate seal, further delaying the lockage process while it is cleared.

River users are requested to notify the Control Room operators as early as possible of their intended lock transit times to assist in scheduling these debris removal efforts.

For additional information contact NWW Operations Division at (509) 527-7112 or (509) 527-7115.
